The River Hills Emergency Squad was established in 1980 with 32 volunteers serving Lake Wylie areas. The River Hills Lions Club was the original driving force in the formation and financial support to this organization. The RHES is located at the front entrance gates of the River Hills Plantation, a private gated community. River Hills Emergency Squad entered into the county 911 dispatch system when it went into effect and responds in a 20 square mile area of northwestern York County.
In 2006 the name was changed to River Hills/Lake Wylie Emergency Medical Services(EMS) to better describe the area covered and the services provided. RH/LW EMS has continued to upgrade it's capabillities by adding another ambulance, a Quick Response Vehicle and training paramedics and EMTs.
RH/LW EMS currently has 10 Paramedics, 9 Intermedates, 7 EMT's and 18 drivers. We currently provide Advanced Life Support 24 hours seven days a week.
River Hills/Lake Wylie EMS provides its services free of charge and operates on donations only.
